Hello,

My name is Josh, I'm 20 and live in Calgary AB,

I have always had a fascination with locks and recently began researching some of the nitty - gritty as to how they work.

I am hoping to buy a pick set to learn, and share in the learning experience of the workings of every day locks. But upon further research I have found that I need some sort of liscence to own a set of picks.

I dont want to own a set illegally, so I am hoping to find more details about this "pick liscence"

Things like cost, how to, where to etc.

I have tried to do my own Google'ing, but All I seem to find is apprenticeship locksmith information,

While this would be interesting, I am not in a position to go back to school full time.

Basically, is there a way to get a pick liscence without having to become an apprentice?

I again want to stress that I want a pick set for completely legal reasons, nothing bad.

If anyone could help shed some light in this regard it would be greatly appreciated!.

Josh

Hello, First I am sorry for the long delay, unfortunately As of the first of January 2011 the pick licence is no longer valid, The new licence is tied into the apprenticeship program. At this time the legal places to buy picks require you to show a valid licence, and being in pocession of these items without a valid licence is very questionable.
